Early Years Unit > Administration Details
Arriving at School
Please be prompt in arriving to establish the habit of punctuality for your child and to ensure they are ready for registration and the first activities of the day.
WoW Scheme
The school promote environment friendly initiatives and as such, as part of the London Transport WoW Scheme, encourages parents and children to ‘park and stride’ to school.
Parking
The school driveway should be kept clear at all times. Please ensure that you do not park in the school drive. Continuous access is needed by the school mini-buses, delivery lorries and emergency vehicles.
The area outside the school and Early Years’ Unit is restricted in space and hazardous due to the close proximity of traffic. We urge parents and carers to be vigilant about their children’s safety and behaviour on the narrow paths and when crossing the roads.
Coat pegs
Please supply a photograph for your child’s peg, before the start of term preferably, to help them feel at home when they start. This can be posted to the office at any time or brought along to the school.
Collection
Children are dismissed each day, by the teacher, to their parent/s or to an “authorised” adult.
Children will not be allowed to go home with anyone who has not been formally notified to us by the parents/guardians.
Parents should complete a form which gives the school the required written notice of any adults authorised by the parents to collect their child. This covers regular arrangements that operate, eg for childminders, nannies, grandparents, relatives or shared school journey agreements between families.
For emergency changes to the normal arrangements for the collection of your child, telephone calls should be made to the school office. When telephoning please ask to speak to a teacher from the Early Years’ Unit to give them the details directly of the agreed adult who will be coming.
If another adult is to collect your child occasionally, eg for a social visit to play after school, the PARENT must write their child’s name and the NAME of the other adult in the Going Home Book that day. (eg Dominic Jones will be collected by Mrs Jane Burns, as terms such as “nanny” and “Ben’s Dad” can lead to confusions).
The ‘Going Home Book’ is kept at the EYU entrance door for you to enter details as necessary.
Late Departures
If you know that you are going to be delayed please notify us in order to save any undue distress to your child.
Absence
If your child is unable to come to school, you should telephone the office that morning between 8.30 and 9.00 am to let the school know how long the absence is likely to be and also the reason for the absence. This is important for your child’s safety.
Illness
Please do not send your son into school if you have a reason to suspect that he is ill. This includes children who are on extended courses of antibiotics.
If your child suffers vomiting or diarrhoea, he cannot attend school until 24 hours have passed since the last occurrence of the symptoms. Conjunctivitis or other communicable diseases should also be treated appropriately at home to minimize the risk of infection to others.
When your child returns it is important to supply a written note of explanation for our records.
For absence during the term due to reasons other than sickness (such as medical appointments or religious observance) parents should write to the class teacher concerned. Requests for unavoidable absence during term time should be made to the Headmaster.
Food & Snacks
Full time boys receive a hot meal at lunchtime with a choice of desserts. A menu is displayed on the EYU notice board and in the classroom.
Water is always available, both indoors and out doors. During snack times we offer the boys milk and a biscuit or a piece of fruit.
Family News
Please tell us about anything significant that has happened or will be happening in your child’s life, such as parents’ absence for work commitments, moving house, disruption of their usual routines, sleep or health queries or death of pets. This enables us to respond appropriately to the children when they are in school.
Bulletins and Circulars
The school publishes a weekly bulletin and newsletter, which can be accessed on our website www.homefield.sutton.sch.uk. Should you not have internet access, please inform the office who will give your son a hard copy.
Please ensure that you read the documents each week in order to keep up the school’s events.
Additional letters to notify you of other details pertaining to the EYU are sent, as necessary, during the year.
Partnership with Parents
Parents’ Consultation Evenings are held twice a year in the Autumn and Spring terms. There is an Open Afternoon in the Summer term. A written report is also sent home in the Summer term.
We sometimes invite parents to join us for the various special events that are held during the year, to assist with outings and to show religious/cultural items or other articles of interest (e.g. musical instruments or pets).
Class Representatives
Each class has a Parent Representative for liaison between the families and school staff. They provide a less formal means of communication and help to develop the social links amongst parents, and with the school.
School Outings
The boys have outings to places of interest connected to our topics and visits from entertainers or educational performers during the year. On some occasions parents may be invited to accompany the children to help us with their supervision when this is needed. However, parents must be CB checked by the school first.
Nursery Vouchers
The funding supplied by the Government for three and four year olds is arranged at Homefield School by the Business Manager. Parents have to show their child’s Birth Certificate, Child Benefit Book or a similar official document to the school, so that each child’s name and date of birth has been verified. A photocopy of this is kept and the original document returned to you immediately. Parents are also asked to sign a form in each of the relevant school terms that their child is eligible for funding and the allowance is applied by the Business Manager to the fee payments for that period.
